Basic Obedience

HMKC offers basic obedience classes to both club members and the general public through out the year.  The instructors for these classes are club members who are experienced obedience exhibitors and have put AKC titles on their dogs.

Dogs of all breeds (including mixed breeds), sizes, and age are welcome to take classes.

Basic obedience is designed to help you teach your dog to have manners and control in the home and in public;; to walking politely on leash, to sit and down on command, to stay when told and to come when called plus a few other desirable behaviors.

Our classes are designed to prepare you and your dog for the Canine Good Citizen evaluation.

This class meets once a week for 6 weeks, they are usually scheduled for a week night evening, the time is usually 6:30pm or 7pm.    The cost is $90.  There is a discount for those who bring a dog they have adopted from the Lewis and Clark Humane Society, please include a copy of your adoption contract when you register for a class.

Continuing Obedience

Our continuing obedience class has a focus on the skills you and your dog will need for your dog to be off leash.   You will learn how to teach your dog to walk at your side when off leash, to stay in a designated spot for extended period of time, to come from long distances with speed and enthusiasm.  This is an opportunity to challenge your dog to more complex training exercises with more complex environments.

This is a 6 week course, 1 hour per class, cost is $90.  It is usually scheduled for a week night evening.  This start date and schedule for this class will be set when there are 6 or more registered students.

Competition Obedience

This class is designed for the beginner Novice Obedience student and dog.  You will learn the rules of the competition events, ring protocol and procedure, handler and dog performance expectations/requirements.  Various training methods for the exercises to be executed in the Beginner Novice and Novice events exercises.  There is some customizing of the course material based on the actual experience level of the handler/dog teams in the class.
