The American Kennel Club, Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program is designed to recognize dogs who have good manners both at home and in the community. This nationally recognized program stresses responsible dog ownership for owners and basic training and good manners for dogs.

The CGC also provides an excellent foundation for training in other fun activities such as Rally, Obedience, and Agility.  It is also a great starting point for preparing both the handler and dog for therapy work.  On January 1, 2013, Canine Good Citizen became an official AKC title that can appear on the title records of dogs registered or listed with AKC.

All of our instructors are AKC approved CGC Evaluators.  We periodically offer these evaluations to both club members and the general public.

The CGC TEST consists of the following 10 skills:

              • Accepting a friendly stranger

              • Sitting politely for petting

              • Appearance and grooming

              • Out for a walk (walking on a loose leash)

              • Walking through a crowd

              • Sit and down on command and staying in place

              • Coming when called

              • Reaction to another dog

              • Reaction to distraction

              • Supervised separation
